About150

IMG_20180319_183445_126.jpg

I’m a teacher, a mother, an artist, and a writer. Basically, I want to do it all, but my time and energy are limited. NoMoreThan150 started in 2013, when I was frustrated with teaching. I googled alternative professions and found a posting that required a statement of  “No more than 150 words explaining why you’re perfect for the gig.”

The thought of boiling myself down to 150 words seemed impossible.

But it was also enticing.

I didn’t apply for the job, but I did make a blog of it. Writing in “No More Than 150” is challenging, but sometimes it’s all any of us have time for. Since 2013, this blog has gone through many phases. Now I’m coming back to basics: posts in 150 words or fewer, with the word count posted at the end, and the occasional “More Than 150” post for topics of greater importance.

*Count determined by WordPress/Google Docs. Blame them for inaccuracies.

That’s my problem, too! I end up having to edit a lot, and I’m learning how to be more economic with words. I do feel limited when it comes to trying to express big ideas, though, so I think I may do an occasional “More than 150” piece in the future.

This makes for an interesting self-imposed challenge, to limit yourself to 150 words. In some sense, however, it seems a sad commentary on peoples’ reading attention spans.

Ooooh…love this idea. I teach Creative Writing and could do a lot with this in class. Students would have to be very particular with the words they chose to use. Love your blog. 🙂

Thanks! I’m notorious for being too wordy, and putting this word limit on myself has helped me cut down on fluff and unnecessary ranting. I’d love to know how your assignment(s) go! I’m always looking for fun things to do with my students 🙂

Alas, I salute your objectives! But as Henry David Thoreau said, “Not that the story need be long, but it will take a long while to make it short.” Ergo, my posts often fall into TL/DR land. Best wishes!

OMG KF/Ottoline, I so did. But you know me, I’m not going to be like, “Hey, you should SO follow my blog. Let me give you the address and wait for you to add me, or else we won’t be friends ever again.” I’m all about subtlety, biatch.

Glad to meet you here! And I like that you didn’t stick to something that no longer reflected who you were. Your blog seems to have evolved and I enjoyed exploring it in reverse… 🙂
